One of my favorites
Dancin' where the stars go blue
Dancin' where the evening fell
Dancin' in your wooden shoes
In a wedding gown
Dancin' out on 7th street
Dancin' through the underground
Dancin' little marionette
Are you happy now?
Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue
Laughing with your pretty mouth
Laughing with your broken eyes
Laughing with your lover's tongue
In a lullaby
Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue
The stars go blue, stars go blue
Dancin' where the evening fell
Dancin' in your wooden shoes
In a wedding gown
Dancin' out on 7th street
Dancin' through the underground
Dancin' little marionette
Are you happy now?
Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue
Laughing with your pretty mouth
Laughing with your broken eyes
Laughing with your lover's tongue
In a lullaby
Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue
The stars go blue, stars go blue
Lions of savo
In March of 1898 when the British started to build a bridge over the Tsavo River, two lions mauled and killed 140 railroad workers. To escape the rampaging lions, the workers fled Tsavo and the construction of the bridge was put to a halt. Lt. Col. John Henry Patterson was chief engineer in the project. He was the one that had to eliminate the lion’s threat. After the lions were killed, the workers came back to Tsavo to finish the bridge. Researchers are trying to figure out why these lions acquired the taste for human blood. These lions were maneless male lions which means they may have had genes that differed from normal lions with manes. Why did the lions kill all of those people?
The male lions of Tsavo, Kenya, which gained notoriety in the late 19th century as man-eaters, are unusual for two reasons. They lack the mane commonly associated with male lions, and they have been found to have an uncommon family life. Bruce Patterson, who works at the New York State Museum, came up with a theory that the social structure and the absence of the mane all boils down to hormones and testosterone. This suggests that the prides are social groups made up of adolescent males whose testosterone levels have not yet peaked. Another theory is that the male lions have a high level of testosterone. In humans, men with high testosterone levels experience baldness. This may be directly related to the maneless lions of Tsavo. This high testosterone also triggers aggressive behavior.
A lion’s mane is used for impressing female lions in courtship and as well as warding off other male lions. Researchers say that a lions mane is linked to the climate in which the lion lives. If a lion is in a warmer climate then the mane will not be as thick as it would be if it was in a cooler area. It was earlier thought that manes grow thick based on nutrition. The lion’s mane is very impressive but there are down sides to the big fluffy mane. It takes energy to grow and maintain. It gives away the lions position when hunting for prey. Also, the mane gets caught in brambles throughout the thick vegetation. There is another theory proposing that the maneless lions of Tsavo do not have manes because of high heated areas.
Lions usually stay away from humans. They do not see humans as a normal food source, although the killer lions in 1898 preyed on many humans. There is a theory that suggests lions kill and eat humans when there normal food sources of antelope, baby elephant, zebra, reptiles and even crocodiles vanish. Humans are a last resort. The killer lion’s food sources must have been non-existent. They saw many humans working on the railroad and became desperate for food. Once they ate a human they realized that it is an easy meal. Humans are very vulnerable, because humans are slow moving, bipedal source of protein the lions make little effort to hunt and kill. Humans were available to be preyed upon so they stayed and hunted about 140 people. They became accustomed to eating humans and may have acquired the taste for humans. John Pickrell wrote in National geographic that man-eaters become what they are because of certain environmental conditions, such as food loss or habitat change. All of which is caused by humans moving into an area. In the Journal of East African Natural History states that even now lions are killing people. A pride of lions have killed nine people since December 2002, and continue to terrorize people in central Malawi. The region is currently in drought, forcing wildlife to travel closer to human populations for food. Damaged teeth or jaws can lead to carnivore- human conflicts. Humans have soft flesh and it would be easy for a lion with a damaged mouth to eat them.
Apparently lions ate people in Tsavo before this particular incident happened in 1898. In the early 19th century, Tsavo was on a slave route in which about 80,000 people died from sickness or injury resulting in free food for the lions. The sickly humans were easy prey for the lions and they took full advantage of this situation. When the humans came into the area, the lion’s normal prey disappeared leaving the humans as the only available food source.
In a few well-documented, localized incidents, man-eating appears to be a learned behavior. Once lions establish a pattern and begin to prey regularly on humans, they can pass it on to their offspring, along with sophisticated strategies and techniques, such as never returning to the same place two days in a row. This would definitely cause the lions to be man-eaters and could be one of the reasons this happens. When the cub is born it is programmed to think that humans are a type of prey, it will be their instinct when they get old enough to hunt. They won’t think twice about stalking a human.
Lions are not the only big cat to attack humans. In Asia the human population is booming. Farmers and loggers are working where tigers live. This causes conflicts between tigers and the humans in the area. While man-eating tigers are a rarity in most parts of Asia, they are big in the Sunderbans, a 10,360 square kilometer densely forested area by a river in India and Bangladesh that is the home to about 250 tigers. No one lives in the mangrove forests and swamps of the Sunderbans however; people do go in there to fish and gather wood and honey. The Sunderban tigers have targeted humans as prey, and human casualties are reported every year. There are tricks that people have thought up to stop tiger attacks. One trick is to put dummies out in the woods that are connected to car batteries. When a tiger touched the dummy the tiger is shocked. This teaches them not to attack humans. Another trick is to where a mask which looks like a normal human face on the back of the head. Tigers mainly attack from behind and these masks help confuse tigers. These attacks are occurring because of sharing an area with the tigers. The tigers prey runs out and they are forced to hunt humans. This is related to the attacks in Africa. These may be the one reason why these attacks occur. Then these hunting methods are passed down to the offspring.
There could be more than one reason for the attacks in Tsavo. It might turn out that the mane has nothing to do with attacking humans at all. It may be just because of humans moving into the lion’s territory. Either way lions do start to acquire the taste for humans and see us as a normal food source after duration of hunting them. The two “killer” lions of Tsavo killed over 100 people because they became used to eating humans. No one really knows exactly why these attacks occurred but the theories keep turning up, there could be many reasons the lions ate so many people. The events that occurred in 1898 will never be forgotten. Scientists won’t rest until they find out exactly why lions attack humans. Was it just cold blood murder, or were there complicated reasons for these attacks? Were the lion’s freaks of nature or were they normal lions desperately need of food. Only lions can tell us why this happens and zoologists will study and study until they find the answer.

Huntin(g)
Hunting is one of America’s favorite past times. The number people hunting is steadily declining. It is important to know how to properly prepare yourself before going out into the woods. Hunting is something that should not be taken lightly. It takes skill, commitment and patience. If not done properly it is possible to be hurt yourself when hunting. A firearm is needed to hunt with. Proper training is needed before handling a firearm without supervision. Hunting safety aside, preparing you for hunting is the most important key.
Clothing is important factor with hunting. In the North Country, hunting season is during late fall and early winter. It can get pretty cold out in the woods. Layering is very important. Layering helps keep body warmth inside your clothes. When I hunt I put on long johns, long sleeved shirt, T-shirt, sweat shirt, and finally I put on my hunting jacket. That is an example of layering. This will definitely keep you warm when you are outdoors.
Cleaning and sighting in your firearm is very important. This will help you become more comfortable in making good shots. Cleaning your rifle is very important because it won’t shoot correctly. Rust and other build up can affect the bullet coming out of the barrel of the gun. I usually clean my rifle every week. It depends what your gun has been through. Maybe it has been in the rain or it had been shot a lot. When that big deer in the woods appears, it is important to be confidant with your scope. Sighting in your gun is crucial. The scope can be off, which means that the cross hairs that you see in the scope can be off center. What you think is a perfect shot can be a complete miss. So take carte of your rifle and it will take care of you. It will reward you with that feeling someone gets when they shoot that big buck. Luring that big buck is another story.
Covering yourself with a cover scent is a good way to fool the deer into thinking there is another deer in the area. I know it sounds gross, but I use doe urine, which is a female deer. This lures male deer in the rut. The rut is the mating season of the deer, and deer have a very good sense of smell. The urine has pheromones which attract the bucks who want to mate. Hopefully a big buck comes your way. Other scents are available like an apple scent. Apples are one of the deer’s favorite foods. Sprays are available that just cover your normal scent. Deer can smell somebody from hundreds of yards away if the wind is just right. That is why sitting in the woods you should be sitting so that the wind is blowing straight in your face. Finding a place to sit is important as well.
While trying to find somewhere to sit you must do some scouting. You must know the deer’s habits. Deer trails are all over the woods. These are where the deer usually walk to different areas. I like to sit somewhere where many trails come together. This is an area where a lot of deer come around. A tree stand is great to sit in. It allows the hunter to be up in the air away from the deer’s vision. It also allows for an easier shot at the deer.
These are just the basics of hunting. The rest mjust be learned by the hunter. Mistakes need to be made in order to learn, like being loud and fidgety. Sooner or later a deer will be shot with this information. Hunting may be cruel to some people but they do not understand that deer need to be controlled so that there isn’t a shortage of food during the winter. Hunting has been done for hundreds of years. It is fun and it allows someone to relax and just take in the scenery. Hopefully the information I told you is passed on to others and hunting again becomes a popular sport.

A guy named Joe receives a free ticket to the SuperBowl from his company. Unfortunately, when Joe arrives at the stadium, he realizes the seat is in the last row in the corner of the stadium, he's closer to the Goodyear Blimp than the field. About halfway through the first quarter, Joe sees through his binoculars an empty seat 10 rows off the field right on the 50 yardline.
He decides to take a chance and makes his way through the stadium and around the security guards to the empty seat. As he sits down, Joe asks the gentleman sitting next to him, "Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?"
The man says "No."
Now, very excited to be in such a great seat for the game, Joe again inquires of the man next to him, "This is incredible! Who in their right mind would have a seat like this at the SuperBowl and not use it?!"
The man replies, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first SuperBowl we haven't been together at since we got married in 1967."
"Well, that's really sad," said Joe, "but still, you couldn't find anyone to take the seat? A friend or close relative?" "No," the man replies, "They're all at the funeral."

funny quotes
I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it's such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.
I want to give you this, but I’m so scared I can’t.
Just the thought of you makes me sweat and pant.
We were so perfect I couldn’t bare it.
Its very cliché but I still gotta share it.
I wanted you to wear my ring.
But that kiss of mine ruined everything.
Now we never talk, it’s strange.
Whatever you need from me, I can change.
Other girls don’t cause that feeling.
My heart beating so hard it hits the ceiling.
It’s obvious that I want us back.
But I am too scared of facing the facts..
I still love you and you’ll never know.
Whenever I’m around you, it’s hard for me to show.
I had my chance with you but that’s done now.
No getting over you, my heart won’t allow.
Just the thought of you makes me sweat and pant.
We were so perfect I couldn’t bare it.

Dont
Don’t you look at me like that.
With your big beautiful eyes..
Your hair shining so bright.
Don’t come any closer.
With your unbelievable body.
A smile that makes me melt.
Don’t talk to me.
With your voice that I love to here
So soothing, and familiar.
Don’t affect me this way.
With everything that you do.
Because my heart cant it.
With your big beautiful eyes..
Your hair shining so bright.

A Lesson from the Pros
Imagine where you want it to go.
Step up to it, don’t forget to waggle.
Pick your target and aim small.
Bring it back nice and slow.
Fluid.
Keep your shoulders nice and quiet.
Stop at parallel.
Don’t be jerky, be calm and smooth it out.
Feet planted, no moving!
Weight distribution, back to front.
Hands must be first.
Nice beautiful finish.
You should have listened to me.
Now go look for your ball in the woods.
Step up to it, don’t forget to waggle.
Pick your target and aim small.
Bring it back nice and slow.

Cheel Game
As I walked into the building with my bag strapped over my shoulder I realized that this could be my last time doing what I really love. I creped my way through the entrance, as my heart pounded with nervousness and excitement. I opened the locker room door and right then and there my whole career flashed before my eyes. I knew that what I have done on the ice throughout my lifetime has lead to this point. I slid my gear on and looked around the room. I saw good friends that I have played with all my life. Out of the blue I heard someone say “its bear season boys.” This was the only other senior and captain besides myself. He said this because our opponents were the Canton Golden Bears, our rivals. My friend and I have played on the same team since we were in third grade. He is one of my best friends and a great player.
When the coach came in to announce warms ups my heart felt like it was about to explode. I knew there was going to be a record attendance, and I wanted to kill those bears. I proudly walked down the hall towards the ice surface with a big “C” on my jersey. I stepped on the ice as a huge whistle blew for us. It was only warm-ups and already I saw the biggest crowd of people I have ever seen attending a high school sport. I knew that this was our day to shine. Warm ups ended and we all sat down in our locker room waiting for the zamboni to finish. Our coaches came in to give us a pep talk and tell us the starting line. It was my cousin Michael, my teammate Ryan and I. I was very excited to be the first line and give my team an advantage early in the game.
Again we had to make that walk down the hall. I was last in line with my fellow senior and best friend Cody. We walked onto the ice with the whistle blowing and the crowd screaming. I looked over at the other team and a feeling of hatred came over me. We lined up for the announcing of the starting lineups. As they called my name the crowd cheered. This caused a burst of adrenaline to rush right through me. I was ready to play the best game of my life.
It was a back and forth game throughout the first and second period. My coach was using only two lines. This made me extremely tired but I had to keep going. I knew if we lost this then it would be the last time to play for the Potsdam Sandstoners. We scored to take the lead and I thought for sure we were going to win this game and move on to the state championship. There was twenty seconds left and my team was scrambling to stop the opposition from scoring. I began praying to god, begging him to let us win the game. As I was begging I heard an explosion of cheers. My heart dropped when I realized what had happened. Canton scored with only 20 seconds left forcing us into overtime.
After one overtime we were still tied. The next three were scoreless as well. I was so tired I could barely stand up. The referees told us to pick our top three players to participate in a shootout. I was second in the shootout. As I looked down at the puck and directed my eyes towards the opposing goaltender I saw stars, the stars someone sees when they stand up too quickly. I almost collapsed but I thought about what I was sent out to do. I skated towards the goalie and I saw it. I saw the right top corner of the net wide open. I looked toward the left so I didn’t give away where was going to shoot. I released that thing so hard I almost fell. It was in slow motion as it headed directly towards the right corner. The goalie reached out but missed with his blocker. As it skimmed his blocker it barely nicked the knob of his stick. It hit the top of the net and went over. I then realized was going to happen. We were going to lose that game. The next two Canton players scored and we went on to lose the game. I cried like I have never cried before. I hugged Cody and we both realized that this was the end, the end to all of our devotion to the very game that was a part of us.
When we reached the locker room I wept even more, I realized this was the very last time I would take off a Potsdam jersey. I handed it to my coach as he said, “it was a joy coaching you Chris, and you were the heart and soul of this team.” He was the best coach I have ever had and probably ever will have. I went around the room thanking the players for working so hard to get us in the position we were in. I stopped and looked around and yelled, “I’m coaching next year boys and you better get ready to sweat bullets.” To this day I still want to assistant coach with the man who made me realize that it wasn’t a sport but it was a passion. It would be an honor being by his side this year. My coach and this game changed my life. It showed me how Potsdam will always be a part of someone and if I don’t coach this year I will be right on the other side of the glass watching the very people I ended my high school career with.
Plenty Of Fish In The Sea
You were my catch of a lifetime, so I thought.
We were both so jealous that we always fought.
We did love each other, as far as people could tell.
But when we were alone we would always yell.
Our pond was vast yet it lacked in depth.
If we hit another milestone it would scare you to death.
Because there was another and I always had suspicions.
You can’t keep over your limit when you go fishin.
You did have feelings this I do know.
I always wondered why it didn’t show.
I waited for you to leave him all these years.
Him back in your life, assured my fears..
You were my first love, that will always flow.
But you were too much and I needed to let go.
Heartache is tough, another catch is the key.
Ill just toss my line out, because there’s plenty fish in the sea.
